How To Oil Your Shears

Oiling shears to me is about keeping the pivot system rust-free and moving smoothly.

I personally don’t put oil along the ride line as I feel it can attract dirt and other debris and potentially lead to a gritty feeling when cutting. To prevent this, just squeeze a couple of drops of oil into the dial system to lubricate them.

How To Oil Your Shears - Walkthrough

In this article, Jessie explains where to oil your shears to keep them lubricated, rust-free, and perform better!

Things you’ll need:

1. Oil Dropper

2. Your shears

Step 1: Identify the ride line and avoid applying oil there

Dirt and debris usually gather around this area which causes your shears to feel gritty.

Step 2: Applying Oil to a pivot System

Apply a few drops in the gap AROUND the dial.

Step 3: Work Your Shears Into A Cutting Motion To Spread The Oil Evenly Throughout The pivot area

Do this as much as needed to ensure oil has been spread evenly

Remember never to apply too much oil or it may attract dirt in the hair. The oil will protect your shears from moisture which causes rust.

And there you go.

That's oiling your shears.
